REACHOUT TECHNICAL SUPPORT

If you have received an error message when trying to send a ReachOut from your home computer there are a few things that you can do to alleviate the issue.

Often times the problem is with the Browser that you are using to access the internet. What is a browser? It's a piece of software on your computer. It lets you visit webpages and use web applications. It's important to have the latest version of your browser. Newer browsers save you time, keep you safer, and let you do more online.

Try these steps…

  1. First make sure that you are using the very latest edition of your current browser. Click this link to find out what browser you are using and if there are updates available http://whatbrowser.org/
  2. Try using another browser such as Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Safari, etc.
Here is a link where you can download other browsers that you can try. http://download.cnet.com/windows/web-browsers/
  3. Clear the cache in the browser, close the browser, re-open and try again. This link will help you learn how to do this on many different browsers. http://kb.iu.edu/data/ahic.html
  4. If you are using Internet Explorer as your internet browser, make sure that you TURN OFF COMPATIBILITY MODE. Compatibility mode in IE is a feature that helps you view webpages that were designed for previous versions of the browser, however having it enabled can break newer sites that were designed for modern browsers. Here’s how to disable it and make sure it only runs for older sites.

Getting Internet Explorer Out of Compatibility Mode

Open up Internet Explorer and press the Alt key on your keyboard, this will make a menu bar appear. Now go ahead and click on the Tools menu item.

Then select the Compatibility View settings option.

The first and most common thing you will want to check is that it has not been enabled for all websites, you can do this by making sure the “Display all websites in Compatibility View” check box is unchecked.

Next you will want to select the sites that are giving you issues and remove them from the list; remember that compatibility view is there for a reason so only remove the sites that look funny or aren’t working correctly. They have probably been coded using newer elements that weren’t available in older browsers and therefore compatibility view is breaking them.

Then click on close and refresh the page. Now older sites that you left in the list will still use compatibility view and newer ones won’t.

  5. Finally, if you are using Firefox  Firefox-logomake sure that you do not have the add-on No-Script installed. This will cause problems when trying to use RiverSupport.

How to disable plugins

Disabling a plugin will turn it off without removing it:

At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button, and then click Add-ons. The Add-ons Manager tab will open.

  • In the Add-ons Manager tab, select the Plugins panel.
  • Select the plugin you wish to disable.
  • Select Never Activate in its drop-down menu.
  • To re-enable the plugin, find it in the list of Plugins and select Always Activate in its drop-down menu.

If trying these steps does not solve the issue, please send a screen shot of the error message to hmacias@irsc.edu so that we can do some further investigation and work to solve the problem.

Please contact Holly Macias at (772) 462-7436 or hmacias@irsc.edu with any questions on using RiverSupport or sending a ReachOut.
