Marilyn Barbour, M.Ed, B.S.M.T. (ASCP)

Marilyn-BarbourAssistant Professor Marilyn Barbour received her bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology from California State University at Los Angeles. She attended a one year clinical internship at Queen of the Valley Hospital in West Covina California and has over 20 years’ experience working in various hospital clinical laboratories throughout the country. She was awarded a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership with an emphasis on Adult Education from Florida Atlantic University. Barbour is the Program Director for the Medical Laboratory Technology Program and Phlebotomy Program and department chair. She is a Site Visitor and Paper Reviewer for the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) and is also the Statewide Common Course Discipline Coordinator for Medical Laboratory Technology at the associates degree level. She has also served in several leadership positions in Florida Society for Clinical Laboratory Sciences and is currently acting secretary.

Jennifer Savage, M.L.T. – Adjunct Faculty

Jennifer-SavageMrs. Jennifer Savage received her associates degree in Medical Laboratory Technology from Indian River State College. She has worked at various clinical laboratories throughout the Treasure Coast area. Her teaching career began at Indian River State College and she is now lead instructor in the Phlebotomy Technician Program. Mrs. Savage is on the advisory board of the Medical Assisting Program and the Medical Laboratory Technology Program. She has reviewed several textbooks in Phlebotomy and is actively involved in the profession by providing blood draw services for a food allergy laboratory. Instructor Savage has mentored and taught in the summer health science academy enabling high school students to receive their first credits in a health science program. Mrs. Savage was recognized as Indian River State College’s health science adjunct faculty of the year. She holds her MLT certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathology and is licensed as a clinical laboratory technologist in the State of Florida.
