Staff Employee of the Month

Announcing the September Staff Employee of the Month
Rebecca Shearer, IRSC Theatre Manager - Main Campus

Rebecca-ShearerPort St. Lucie resident Rebecca Shearer is being recognized as the Indian River State College September Employee of the Month. Serving in the role as the IRSC Theatre Manager, Becky is a veteran of the IRSC Performing and Visual Arts Department, as well as an alumni of the program. Becky first started employment with IRSC in September of 2000 serving as an Institutional Assistant. In October of 2001 Becky was promoted to Theatre Technician. In July of 2003 Becky became a Production Manager before being promoted to Theater Outreach Coordinator. Today she serves as the Theatre Manager, keeping the IRSC Performing and Visual Arts Program and a full season of performances on track.

Ask Becky’s co-workers about her dedication to the IRSC Performing and Visual Arts Program and they will share with you what a hard-working individual she is. As Theatre Manager, Becky is called upon to perform daily administrative duties for the Performing and Visual Arts Department, works with students, schedules and tracks departmental expenditures as well as keep the Theatre running efficiently. Becky is known as a multi-tasker who never refuses a request. In fact, if asked to assist with something or given a project, Becky is known to complete them with amazing speed.

Those that work with Becky best share what an incredible contributor to the IRSC Theatre program she is as well as to the entire institution. A co-worker shares, “Becky is continually thinking of innovative ways to promote the IRSC Performing Arts Program and its shows in the community to draw in new patrons.” Another co-worker states that, “Becky is the most efficient and hardest working person I know. She keeps the theatre on track!” Finally another IRSC employee shares, “Becky is incredibly organized, and she is the rock of our department. She is someone who can always be counted upon and who keeps everything running smoothly.”

Announcing the October Staff Employee of the Month
Kelly Hogan, Social Media Specialist – Institutional Advancement

Kelly-HoganFort Pierce resident Kelly Hogan is being recognized as the Indian River State College October Employee of the Month. Kelly has long been a part of the IRSC family, but joined the team officially as a full-time employee starting in the Career Center March 2013 as a Career Specialist I. Her interest and talent in marketing and promotion earned her a place on the Institutional Advancement team as Public Information Specialist in December 2014, and she was recently named, Social Media Specialist.

Kelly’s co-workers know her to be a conscientious, thoughtful and dedicated employee. They know any job Kelly is tasked with she thinks through, asking all the appropriate questions, thoroughly researching options on the best way forward prior to undertaking a project. Kelly has streamlined office operations, taking the initiative to digitize documentation including all emergency operation procedures keeping them up to date in the Cloud allowing IA access to emergency procedures and information at a moment’s notice regardless of location or time.

Kelly has embraced the lead in the College’s Social Media strategy, adding a fresh approach to our presence on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and more. She keeps our Social Media channels timely, ensuring interesting and audience-appropriate content is being shared. Kelly is also effective in handling financial issues and using Workday. A good writer of news releases, she consistently promotes IRSC messages about student achievements and College accomplishments. In addition to her daily responsibilities, Kelly is active in AFC serving on the Social Committee, encouraging her entire department to participate more.

The people who work with Kelly each day happily share how much she contributes to the College and what a great addition to their team she is. One co-worker states, “Kelly is amazing! I’m struck by how consistently she thinks ‘outside the box’ and ‘one step ahead.’” Another shares, “Kelly is an incredible person to have on our team. On any project she takes part in, Kelly is an active, positive contributor.” Finally another co-workers declares, “Our office is a ‘work family’ with a team approach to tasks and projects. There is NO ONE I would rather have on my team or as a member of my work family than Kelly.”

Announcing the November Staff Employee of the Month
Elizabeth Shields, Assessment Specialist Mueller Campus Assessment Center

Elizabeth-ShieldsVero Beach resident Elizabeth Shields is being recognized as the Indian River State College November Employee of the Month. Liz first joined the IRSC family in 2008 as a part-time testing facilitator. She became full-time in August 2011 and today serves as a Testing Assistant II at the Mueller Campus Assessment Center.

Liz is an integral part of student success and the student experience at the Mueller Campus. Liz is known for being a very well organized individual, a skill that helps her schedule all of the staff and testing for the Mueller Campus Assessment Center efficiently. During the relocation of the Mueller Campus Assessment Center three years ago Liz was instrumental in the move. The relocation was made with the goal of increasing student access and capacity. Thanks in no small part to her involvement, the move facilitated a 5.4% increase in the number of assessments in just the first year in its new location.

Liz also volunteers for many Campus initiatives that make attending class on the Mueller Campus a special experience for our students. One such event is the New Student Orientation. She also has made inspirational rock messages to encourage students and is a part of the campus planning group for events. She volunteers to keep the Mueller Campus emergency call and communications tree up-to-date and accurate.

Liz’s co-workers love to share how her enthusiasm for the College and her passion for being a part of the success of students. One co-worker shares, “Liz is always eager to share her ideas in department meetings, and she’s able to make a long meeting a great experience with her wit and humor.” Another colleague talks about her attitude each day saying, “Liz is always kind and genuinely caring when she interacts with students.” They continue sharing, “She is really good at calming down nervous students before they start their exams.” Finally another co-worker adds, “Liz goes out of her way to help student every day, without a doubt she deserves recognition for her commitment to them.”
