Bright Futures FAQS

  • Q. What if I do not meet the cumulative overall GPA and/or required credit limit after Spring grades are posted?
    A. Students can attend during the summer session (at their own expense) to make up the GPA and/or credit hour requirements.
  • Q. What if I still do not meet the cumulative overall GPA renewal requirement after the summer grades and hours are posted?
    A. If you do not earn the required GPA by the end of the summer term you may apply for RESTORATION of the scholarship at the end of any spring or summer term to receive funding for the upcoming FALL term if you have raised your GPA to the required renewal level.
  • Q. What if I still do not meet the required credit hours after the summer grades and hours are posted?
    A. RESTORATION DOES NOT apply if you did not earn the hours required for renewal of the scholarship. If a student does not earn the required hours by the end of the summer term, their only option is to file a Scholarship Appeal Form indicated below. If it is approved, the student will be put back on the Bright Futures Program. Unfortunately, if the appeal is not approved, the student can never get back on the Bright Futures Scholarship Program.
  • Q. What if I did not meet the scholarship renewal criteria due to a verifiable illness or other circumstance beyond my control?
    A. If you do not meet the renewal GPA and /or required hours due to a verifiable illness or other emergency, you may file an APPEALS FORM with the financial aid office. The medical or emergency circumstances that affected the semester/s in question must be documented. You should provide as much documentation as possible regarding the illness or emergency at the time you submit your appeal.
  • NOTE: A student may file this Appeal any time after they have received notification from the state or our office indicating they did not meet the renewal requirements.
Official ineligibility notices are mailed to students during the summer following spring evaluation of their renewal eligibility by the Office of Student Financial Assistance (OSFA) of the Florida Department of Education. If a student has not already filed an appeal with our office by that time, they must file this Appeal within 30 days of the date of the ineligibility notice sent to them by OSFA. The appeal must be submitted at least two weeks in advance of the meeting date (contact the financial aid office for scheduled meeting dates). The scholarship committee meets every month to review appeals. You will be notified by mail of the decision of the committee. OSFA has the right to reject an approval decision by the Scholarship Appeals Committee. APPEALS FORM
  • Q. What if I am taking dual enrollment / transient hours and have a Bright Futures Scholarship?
    A. Your grades can negatively effect the renewal of your Bright Futures scholarship if you did not do well. Contact Sasha Ramirez-Acosta (Bright Futures Coordinator) at 772-462-7293 if you need additional assistance.
